Typism Book 6: Behind the Scenes 1

Mar 11, 2020

Each year we feature some behind the scenes shots of the process behind some successful Typism submissions. To kick off this year we are sharing the process of Delphie Joy.

Delphie is an Australian designer who loves to tell stories through her lettering. She is also the founder of See Creative, a studio focused on unique hand-crafted brand identities.

Delphie started her piece by creating a rough sketch that maps the shape and layout of the letterforms.

Still sketching, Delphie then worked on developing a more detailed sketch, outlining the changes she will need to make when progressing to the next stage.

Next, the fun (and possibly slightly messy part) experimenting! Using watered down artists gouache, Delphie experiments using different brushes, including one of our favourites, the cola pen!

Having a closer look you can see the beautiful organic strokes that are created.

Finally taking it onto the computer, Delphie cleans up the outcome but adds in some dots to signify the paint splashes from the original artwork, which we love.

This expressive piece has some amazing unique letterforms and flows really nicely. You will find this artwork in the upcoming Typism Book 6.
