Sneak peek at Book Logo 7

Every year, we tap someone on the shoulder to come up with a design for the Typism book logo and launch it at the end of the year, ready to send out the call for entries into the next Typism Book. Well, it's that time of the year again and we are up to logo (and book) number 7, can you believe it?

This year has been so topsy-turvy that it seemed only appropriate for ambigram master Nikita Prokhorov to take his turn at the logo (geddit? turn, *groan*). That's right, as we say goodbye to 2020, we turn our Typism world around with an ambigram and take a fresh look at 2021. 

What is an Ambigram?

Well, for those of you who have ever read the Dan Brown book Angels and Demons, you will be familiar with the ambigrams which play an integral part in that book. For the rest of us, put simply, they are words that can be read from left or right, upside down, or from multiple viewpoints.

Nikita has created an upside down ambigram for the Typism Book 7 logo so if you're able, turn your phone (or head) upside down and you'll see the word is magically the same. 

It's hard to believe it if you didn't see it with your own eyes, but the ty magically becomes an m, and the p becomes an s and the whole word rotates around the i. So elegant and clever.

About Nikita

We first met Nikita when he taught us how to design an ambigram as part of the Typism Summit. You can find that workshop, along with many other lettering classes, included as part of the Typism Membership.

Nikita also spoke at last year's conference on the Gold Coast and wowed the audience with his stunning body of work. You can also watch the video of that talk inside the membership.

We asked Nikita to send through some sketches of the logo so that we could see the sketching and we are loving the idea for the cover mockup.
