Larry Stammers Typism Talk 2019

Feb 10, 2020

Larry Stammers is a Melbourne based signwriter, with over fifty years in the signwriting industry.

Larry’s talk is called “The Signwriter 1969–2019” and he shares his experiences, stories and lessons learned over that time, while also including some dad jokes and bad haircuts from the ’70s.

Larry knew after his first lesson that he wanted to do signwriting forever.

Larry gives us insight into what the signwriting industry was like back before the revolution and the attitudes of the time. He shares the many tools and techniques they used before the introduction of digital typefaces.

He shares his story of starting his own company, Sign Vision, the lessons he learnt as a small business owner and how when the revolution came about, he adapted to keep his business alive.

Larry finishes his talk with some encouraging words for us all and sharing the work he's doing in helping educate designers in the art of traditional signwriting, to keep the trade alive.
