EPISODE 1: The importance of play in your lettering practice with Kate Hursthouse
Kate Hursthouse is a Kiwi, from Auckland in New Zealand to be exact. She is an illustrator, calligrapher, lettering artist and mum to baby Arlo. The second baby we’ve ever had attend a Typism Conference. The first being Carla Hackett’s brand new baby. We start on them young here at Typism.
Kate spoke about shifting perspectives at the 2019 Typism Conference and gave a fantastic workshop on lettering with unusual materials. Her techniques are filled with colour and energy and one look at her Instagram feed and you can tell that play and experimentation is a core part of Kate’s daily practice.
We asked Kate on to the Typism podcast to talk about a topic that is often overlooked by professional lettering artists: the importance of play!
