Every year we go behind the scenes and look at the process behind some of the successful Typism submissions. To kick off this year we are sharing process videos from Mattia Bonora, Marla Moore, Snooze One and Kay Damme.

In this video, you can see the painstaking way Mattia builds up the calligraphy, line after line. Slow and steady wins the day with this piece.

The Last Straw

For this work, Marla has created her lettering on the iPad and she shows the deceptively simple way she creates the plastic-looking straws and has them casually fall in a way that spells out the words.

Snooze One | @snooze.one

In this video, you can see the delightfully analogue process. Paint on cardboard is one of the earliest forms of play for just about everyone and you can see how the form still retains its playful energy.

Kay Damme | @hykay

Kay has also used the iPad and in this timelapse, you can see the lettering evolve in sketch form first and then slowly she adds colour and structure to the work.
