Typism Book 7: Lisa Plattner

Jun 27, 2021

Each year we feature some behind the scenes shots of the process behind a few of the successful Typism submissions. To kick off this year we are sharing the process of Lisa Plattner.

Lisa is multilingual designer and lettering artist, currently living in beautiful South Tyrol in Italy.

Lisa originally created the lettering as a T-shirt design. The lettering started out as bold broad-nibbed strokes, which you can see below. These letterforms were refined as a lock-up before scanning and vectoring in the computer.

Lisa refined each letterform using a sketch and redraw process to capture each letterform and interlock them comfortably.

She then used a flat parallel pen to create the final lettering lock-up.

Drawings of a wine bottle and glass were added to the sketch before scanning, ready to be vectored.

Unfortunately, we haven't worked out how include animated gifs in the printed book just yet, but you will find the static version of this artwork in Typism Book 7.
