Kate Hursthouse Typism 2019

Mar 02, 2020

Kate Hursthouse is an illustration, calligraphy and hand lettering artist from New Zealand who spoke at last year's conference.

Kate’s talk was called “Shifting Perspectives.” Kate was a former Architect who took an early retirement to pursue her passion for illustration. She soon found calligraphy and the rest is history.

Throughout her talk Kate shares her experience transitioning to full-time freelancing, including the pros and cons involved. She touches on the number of different roles you have to juggle as a sole trader and how saying ‘no’ can sometimes be better than saying ‘yes’.

Kate shares some significant life events that have happened to her and how these things can shift your perspective and make you question the type of work you want to be doing.

We love her honesty throughout the presentation and also the super cute photos of her son Arlo! Check out the full talk in the video!
